Brick pavers are one of the most attractive and distinctive materials for hardscaping and landscape design. They are used for walkways, patios, pool decks, driveways, and as edging. Brick paving is very popular with both landscaping contractors and the do it yourself homeowner, combining an easy installation with a bold landscaping statement.
Caring for any application of brick pavers starts with good cleaning habits. Dirt, moss and spills will slowly erode the beautiful facade of brick paving. UV radiation, and weather are also contributing factors to dulling the finish of pavers. Routine cleaning includes sweeping off dirt and debris, especially from walkways as grit will slowly deteriorate brick over a number of years.
Periodic power washing will return even old brick pavers back to their original shine and beauty. Clean bricks will revitalize any landscape design. But many DIY homeowners have tried their hand at power washing with mixed results. Often times the pressure is too high – causing lines to show, bricks to crack, and sand to be dislodged from between the stones. Fortunately, there is an alternative.
We employ specific cleaning solutions and techniques to the cleaning process for exterior pavers. We don’t direct a stream of water directly to the pavers to avoid etching and damaging the stones. Instead we utilize tools with high speed turbo spinners on them to safely remove the dirt and debris while not directly impacting the stones. However, sometimes sand can be dislodged – especially when it hasn’t been sealed. When this occurs, we have highly recommended contractors available to re-apply sand when needed.
